What is the practical difference between "D" volume backup vs "D:\" folder backup?

Setup: urbackup server running on TrueNAS, client running on Windows 10, local network.

D:\ on windows is not a boot partition, just contains user files.

On urbackup client, I can setup D letter in “Image backups”. Or, I can go to “Add/remove backup paths” and add D:\ root path. Two ways of backing up my D drive, and I’m not sure what are the implications of choosing one vs the other.

Which method would be more preferable for this use case? Can I still browse and restore individual files from image backups?

Yeah, but depends on server OS – maybe just try if it works.

Otherwise image backup is a bit faster especially with small files. Otherwise if you don’t need to restore 1:1 volumes, I’d recommend just doing file backups.
