Is there any possibility for the future, for being able to back up virtual machines themselves (Vmware, Proxmox, etc…) in addition to being able to use the agent for granular backup. I fully realize this would be for a commercial version, however this would be a huge feature to have available. I think it would make a great product even better.

Urbackup is not intended for use as a hypervisor backup and recovery solution. You might be able to configure an image backup of the virtual machine but its not the same as a true solution that will do snapshots of the virtual machine. I use nakivo to backup vmware ESXI as it has all the features of a complete hypervisor backup and recovery solution for a good price. https://www.nakivo.com/
