I could not find an answer to this in the forums; why do i get near wire speed backing up to compressed VHD but when using uncompressed VHD only ~150mbit/s?
ZFS is my storage backend with compression enabled on the dataset, so I have no benefit to having the urbackup process spent compute time calculating the compression.
I don’t have an answer for you but, if your backend is ZFS, have you consider using “Raw Copy-on-write file” for your image files?
If you do, UrBackup will use the ZFS snapshots function to create the incremental image files.
At least on my system, this gives me full network speed and the ZFS system takes care of compression.
Now, to play devil’s advocate, i have 2 urbackup instances that are currently experiencing a ZFS related error for months now and nobody in this forum has been able to diagnose it. Because of that, my backups have stopped working altogether so you might as well wait for that to be resolved (although i’m not hopeful anymore).
I’d like to use uncompressed VHDX but UrBackup doesn’t seem to know how to stitch the incrementals together for restore, both through the command line and the restore USB iso. The log indicates it does not understand it needs to start with the parent image, VHD/Z works as expected though.
