The backup server stopped working after an update of Windows 11:
KB5050577
KB5050094
I’ve uninstalled them, and opened up the firewall for urbackup to allow public and private on its ports , and it seems to work again now. Once the backups have been completed (it hasn’t managed one in 2 days, so I need to try and get the incrimentals back up), I will re-install the updates and see if it breaks again
Has anyone else had this issue? I have 2 backup mini-pcs, and the one with the issue had “get the latest updates as soon as they are available”. The other one (which didn’t have the problem) didn’t have that option checked. So I’m pretty sure they issue has come from the update
Ok - so its 100% KB5050577 thats causing the issues. It was working fine, then I installed that update, and it stopped working again. So now removing it again.
Not sure what could be causing it? I’m sure lots of other people will have this issue when it comes out of “get the latest updates” mode, and just forces it on everyone
I assume you have to collect some server logs to get help. Does it even start? I dont know where the server stores log files under windows but it should log into some file.
Just found that:
The server log file is per default located at C:\Program files\UrBackupServer\urbackup.log. Change warn to debug in C:\Program files\UrBackupServer\args.txt to create a debug log file.
I don’t have the error any more as I removed the windows update (I had to roll back). It should be a pretty simple thing to replicate on another windows11 machine (assuming its the update doing it). Basically it said “unable to connect” over and over. When you tried to start a backup, it would just fail right away and say it couldn’t start.
