Urbackup client on qnap or alternatives for backup of a NAS

Good morning my friends,
first of all thanks to all the developers of urbackup, I think that this is the best backup software ever made, even better of bacula that I was using for years even in terms of affidability and management.
I have two simple questions:

  • I already googled a lot so I found that there isn’t an urbackup client for my qnap TS-212P sw4.2.2, for now the solution that I adopted was to mount on my debian/urbackup server the QNAP’s shared folders and then using the client on my urbackup server I created my schedule. This is working but obviously in the web interface the client is named as the urbackup server and this create a lot of confusing, mostly because in the sameway I’m backuping other 3 nas… how can I solve this?
  • Is there a way to not create links in the backups folders, so when I open from another pc I can only view the effective backuped files? I really like this feature but in some situations is better for me to only view the real content of a backup. For this I have already removed in the client settings the option “create symbolically linked views for each user on the clients after file backups” with no results.
    many thanks

Seems that has a ARMv5 processor. The precompiled binary client only works with ARMv6+ processors. You’ll have to compile it yourself. Should be easy enough.

thx for your reply, but can you please provide further informations about this? or where can I find some tips?
thank you

look at : ‘Virtual sub client’ in the doc

Does changing the client name help you?

Settings -> Client -> Separate Client Settings -> Client -> Computer Name

ooooh this is very usefull! many many thanks for this trick!! in this way I can manage all the devices in my network that are not client/capable with a simple share… I’m not sure how this share/client solution impacts the performance of the backup but it is certainly functional.
many thanks
