I have one urbackup instance installed on a remote server and it works like a charm.
Now I’ve a costumer that needs to upload a lot of GB but her Internet connection is awful.
In my office I’ve fiber (100MB connection) and I copied all her files on my external HDD and I uploaded all files from my office.
But now, I have a big trouble on the PC of my costumer.
I can connect to the Internet server, but the incremental backup doesn’t start.
I dont know if I used the best way to upload the files of my costumer. And I dont know if I can use the same account to do first an full backup and after an incremental backup from a different computer.
I think, and you would have to ask @uroni for confirmation, but you should have copied those files to a PC on the local LAN of the UrBackup server and then done a backup of those files and then triggered an incremental backup of the remote client. The UrBackup server would compare the hashes and backup the files that changed since your last backup. As the other files would have the same hash, it would not transfer them because it already has them.
If you just copied them to the clients directory, I do not believe that it would have made hashes of them and would have no point of reference.
Thanks for your answer but I think that I’ve not explained my trouble very well.
I’ve a remote server on France. And I’m from Spain.
I need to backup 15GB from a costumer that in her office have an awful internet connection.
I decided to copy this 15Gb to my HDD external and go to my office (because I have fiber 100MB) and upload all files backup from my office to my Urbackup remote server on France.
And I did it, but when I try to connect the computer of my costumer to the URbackup remote server, I can connect but the incremental backup doesn’t starts never… and I dont know why…
I dont know if this is the best way to upload large size files for first time. And after that do incrementals from the original source.
I upload from my office doing a urbackup full backup files. And it works like a charm.
But when I try to connect the PC of my costumer and I try to do an incremental backup doesn’t works.
The PC connect to my Urbackup server but never start to copy files… and the hash are different because there are files modified on my costumer.
If my understanding is correct, you might check the client side hashes setting on your and her (your client’s) client settings. If the hashes are turned on on both the client and your machine, then the hashes should be equal for all files that are still the same.
My understanding is, though, that the hashes slow things down… significantly. Is it possible that the server and client are processing the hashes and it’s just taking a while?
