What will happen if I change the Image backups > Image backup file format from Compressed VHD to VHD? Will I lose my existing backups? Or will the chain be disrupted? Will retention still take affect on the VHDXs while they remain?
In other words, I would like to change the setting to non-compressed without any repercussions or at least unforeseen repercussions!
Well, I finally decided to pilot the change on one backup task. I kicked of an incremental, and it is a VHD file. I’m theorizing at this point that I won’t be able to use the chain as it will be mixed VHDZ and VHD files. But maybe after retention purges the VHDZ files, then it will be usable. Or maybe after the next full runs then subsequent incrementals will be usable.

You can switch over any time and it should not cause any problems.
