Server updated, Clients are not Auto-updating to newest client version 2.5.27

So I just upgraded my urbackup Linux server to the latest version, 2.5.35

I have about 20 Windows clients running 2.5.26

I was expecting my clients to auto-update them self too the latest 2.5.27 version.

looking at the Server my server_version_info.properties is still saying that its running 2.5.32

the version.txt still says version 291

I have deleted both files on the server, and restarted the serevr. the files get re-created by the server , but still with the old version.
urbackupsrv --version
shows UrBackup Server v2.5.35.0

Did I miss somthing here?

If I manually update a the windows client everything works fine as far a backing up. but the rest of my clients will not auto-update

Welcome! You are now in the Club of Early Adopters. I’m also in that club, and I’ve had the same issue. Here is my workaround.

Anyone following these instructions at a later date should substitute the current Client release number for the 2.5.27 mentioned here.

Server 2.5.35 and Client 2.5.27 were released relatively recently, and the usual practice of UrBackup’s author is to wait a while before turning on the automatic download of new Server and Client versions, in case the Early Adopters find something has broken in the new release. Your Server is likely following the default setting in the Web interface to “Download client from update server,” which appears under Settings: Server. Until UrBackup’s hidden Internet setting is updated for the new Client release, your Server will continue to act as if release number 291 is the proper version. You can either wait for Client 2.5.27 to be marked for general release, or manually install the Client update files from UrBackup’s download server.

To manually install a Client update, first turn off (uncheck) “Download client from update server” in the Settings, because having this checked will continue to replace the Server’s version.txt file with whatever it finds on UrBackup’s Internet site, effectively disabling the manual Client update you’re about to do. Save the changed settings with the button at the bottom of the page. (Yes, I’ve forgotten that myself enough times to include the reminder.)

Next, from a console on your UrBackup Linux server, download the 9 update files from https://hndl.urbackup.org/Client/2.5.27/update/ to an empty work folder in your /home/[username] folder, which I’ll call Client_update. Downloading to a user folder makes the next step a bit easier. Then
sudo cp Client_update/* /var/urbackup/
to install the new files where your UrBackup server will find them. Just to avoid possible ownership issues,
sudo chown urbackup:urbackup /var/urbackup/*
to make sure UrBackup can use all the files you just downloaded.

Lastly, restart your UrBackup Server local service with
sudo service urbackupsrv restart
or whatever command your Linux server requires.

Share and Enjoy!

Yup, that worked, all my clients have Updated to the newest version. Thanks for pointing that stuff out, your workaround, worked perfectly.
