Restore the image via commandline

Hi,
This error message happens when restoring an image in a VM : “restore partition note available” (something with misconfigured MBR).
I read in this forum that I shoud restore the image via commandline, but can you explain how to do that please ?
How can I configure my virtual hard disk following this “limitation” : “The drives must be MBR partitioned, the partition must be a primary one” ?

Thanks.

If you have only one volume on one hard drive it propably fullfills the requirements.

The error can also occur if the Linux kernel cannot find the partition. Which VM Software in combination with which virtual hard disk modell are you using?

Thanks for your help.
I tried both IDE and SCSI disks.
I tried with VirtualBox.

Okay. I’ll try a restore with the newest VirtualBox version then and get back to you here.

I finally got around to test it. And unfortunately I cannot reproduce your problem.

I used VirtualBox 4.1.22, Win XP as client, controller: IDE PIIX4; used host I/O cache.
