Question on file/folder restore and disk usage

Hi!

I’m very new to UrBackup and I installed my first server on a Windows 2003 R2 platform in order to check this software. It seems to be a very good job! Bravi!

Some questions not answered on the online manual:

  • Is there a way to recover an entire directory or an entire set of backup on a file backup scenario? Or I need to recover file by file?
  • In the Statistic page I can see the disk occupancy of each user. This is a real disk occupancy or I have to consider an estimate space due to the use of hard links?
  • In file backup scenario, what are the best server settings in terms of full and differential backup in order to minimize disk occupancy?
  • My server limit to 2TB the available space on a single partition. There is a way to specify two different backup folder?

Sorry for my english and thanks for this very good piece of software.
Claudio

The file structure on the server is identical to the file structure on the clients. So you can just copy them with whatever you want.

The statistics page shows the real disk occupancy. Hard linked files are proportionally attributed to all involved clients.

With regards to disk occupancy it does not matter. UrBackup always hard links files which are unchanged on the disk, even for full backups.

Currently this is not possible. Consider using OS capabilities such as dynamic volumes or a hardware raid.

Thanks,

I think that I need to format my iScsi with GPT instead of MBR to solve the 2TB limit.
Do you plan to introduce some kind of compression on future release of this software?

1.4 will include image compression. As you are on Windows you could use the NTFS compression for the files.
