Push or pull ? Network isolation of the server

Hello,
I’m wondering if client connect to the server (push) or is it the server that connect (pull) ? My plan would be to have a backup server without any incoming network port open. Administration of the server would be done directly on localhost, from the datacenter. Goal is to totally isolate the server from the network in case of ransomware.

It can do both, but across networks Internet/passive mode is easier to use.
