Multiple clients lost internet server settings and key

Hi,

I noticed this week that a large number of my clients were not backing up.
When I looked into why I discovered that the internet server field, in the client app, was missing. As was the Internet auth key field.
So far I have ‘fixed’ three Windows clients but have many more to go. The first two clients I repaired by removing and reinstalling the client software. The third I tried to repair by adding the server and key manually. Oddly this didn’t work as the client computer had a different name. I had to reinstall the client software.
I’m not entirely sure this is a Windows only issue as I’m just starting to look into it.

I recently upgraded to Server 2.1.18 from 2.0.37 (I think).
The clients are mostly running 2.0.38-cbt but not all are actually using CBT.
I use the Perform autoupdates silently feature.

I have a lot of internet clients and now have to repair them all manually.
Does anyone have any idea why this happened? I’d like to avoid a repeat if at all possible.

Thanks,
Glenn

UPDATE: After checking 165 clients I am happy to report this only seems to affect 5 Windows machines.

@hippy,

I had this happen to a few of my clients about a month ago. I’m still on an older urbackup server version (2.0.38), and all of my 185 clients are on windows. Like you, I am using internet mode too. I haven’t tried to upgrade to 2.1.x yet on this server.

I had to reinstall the non working clients (3 or 4 if I remember correctly). I did try to insert the key and server over a remote desktop session, however, it did not work for me either.

I have no idea why those few clients went off the rails, and I have nothing more to add, just wanted you to know it happened to someone else too…

Now you mention it. I was running 2.0.38 before the upgrade (which went very smoothly btw)
So maybe the key etc went missing before the upgrade.

If anyone has (client) logs about this issue or gives me the data files of a client that is broken I might be able to find the issue.

I have to go ‘fix’ the final client tomorrow.
I’ll see if I can get the logs while I’m there.

Thanks.

Unfortunately the client, I fixed today, turned out to be in airplane mode and not a settings issue.
Next time it happens I will grab the logs.
