Mounting VHDZ files from remote share?

I’ve got URbackup server running on linux. If I want to restore files to a Windows Server client, I assume I have to keep running an uncompress utility on the linux box - which is sort of a pain if I’m restoring a file here and there fairly often. I’m assuming there is nothing that will directly mount the compressed VHD over a Windows Network File Share (SMB) so if I’m not wanting to uncompress all the time as an additional step, I suppose I should turn off compression.

Are you not taking file backups? If you are, you should be able to directly access those files in the hierarchy and you would not have to deal with VHDs at all.

You can directly mount VHDZ files on Linux. See http://www.urbackup.org/administration_manual.html#x1-730009.4
