Hey all, new here and just some initial questions. I’m reading on the urBackup home page that there is limited support for Linux and no imaging. Does this only apply to if the hosting machine in running Linux? If I’m doing my a network backup of a Linux client from a Windows machine can I still image the hard drive?
Linux for the server is fully supported and even preferred over Windows.
Images are not supported for the Linux client because there is no standartized machinsm for getting consistent volume snapshots on GNU/Linux. Additionaly you don’t even need to image Linux. It is often enough to backup all the files on the filesystem.
Btfs, ZFS and LVM give you options to do this consistently. With LVM and dd/something better you can probably also get consistent volume snapshots.
