Is it ok to run the server on a VM?

I’m running the urbackup server on a VM running server 2012R2.
I’m having a lot of trouble doing a restore of a client pc (win7).
I finally got it to start a restore, but it fails and then it can’t find the server to restart the restore.
Just wondering if it’s related to the server being a VM.
Does anyone run the urbackup server on a VM successfully?

Runs fine in a VM here (VmWare ESXI).
I doubt it’s related to the server being a VM.
