"Image backup status" stays "Disabled"

Hi @all,

I am new to UrBackup and I am struggeling with my very first client. I followed the instructions for debian based systems (client) and Windows (server for testing purposes). The client is running on the client Linux system and is communicating with the server. But I can’t figure out how to enable and do a full image backup. Whenever I start the backup I see that it is scheduled and then nothing happens. No logs, no activities, nothing that could help me to find the issue here I do not care about file backups. A few screens:

Does anybody have a hint for me?

Under settings > Client do you have times that it can backup?

So there is no limitation regarding times. But would this even be a valid limitation if I start the full image backup by hand (what is what I did several times).

Yes that, and i agree there’s no limit, although ive not seen my clients adhere to this schedule in any way, we have 0-8 image backup and 9-20 for files, most times images are done during file times, so no idea what the point of that screen is…

Our server and clients are on the same LAN and timezone…

Thank you anyway. In the meanwhile I tried to find logs that are not covered via the UI of UrBackup but I can’t find any. So I am blind, cannot figure out what is the reason for not creating an image-backup…

Another screenshot: Here you can see that the backup job gets queued but then is immediately gone without any logs…

Server Gui → Settings → General → Server → Do not do image backups

pve is a linux client? Proxmox?
could you check the logs at client site?
maybe activate debug logs!
Just as an advice I would also setup an second client (Windows) for testing

Hi @Tschak , I enabled debug logs on client and server side. Here they are. At the server side I think only the last lines that correspond to two times I triggered the full image backup are interesting. The client logs are stripped down to exactly these timestamps. As one can see, the trigger fires (
msg=START IMAGE FULL) but there is never something like an answer. The client is a proxmox station, that is correct.

I advise also at the beginning start with all Settings coming from the Server

everytime start with a lock symbol here

Hi! That would mean “C” in this case. Is this appropriate when the client is a linux device?

sorry I don’t habe any experience with backup linux systems with urbackup. For Proxmox I evertime use Proxmox Backup Server.

This seems like a client side issue, ive also never backed up Linux (although i do have one so might test it).

Even Windows though doesnt seem to adhere to the schedule i have set.

Finally… The volumes to back up is the root cause. Seems like ALL_NONUSB etc. from the config options are not valid in Linux systems. I tried explicit linux device pathes and it now works. Like /dev/mapper/pve-root as one volume…

In my opinion there should have been logs to direct me. But that is another topic.
