I cant get URBACKUP to use my WD-EX4100 NAS

1st my external usb hard disk was crap buffered out at 100% forever. Old Seagate 5TB. it might be a SMR type drive? buffer issues?.

So I installed a Western Digital WD EX-4100 NAS
It works great from windows! but UrBackup gives errors below.

Trying to use UNC addresses

Windows Address in file manager \WD-EX4100\urbackup\urbackup
I have also tried the ipaddress of the NAS instead of the name same errors.

Urbackup Server>settings>backup storage path \WD-EX4100\urbackup\urbackup

This is the error

The directory where UrBackup will save backups is inaccessible. Please fix that by modifying this folder in ‘Settings’ or by giving UrBackup rights to access this directory. (err_folder_not_found). Access is denied. (code: 5)
UrBackup is denied access to the network share, probably because it does not have the correct credentials to access the server. To setup UrBackup server to backup to a network share please see the FAQ: UrBackup - Frequently asked questions

[Ok. Stop showing this error](javascript: stopShowError(‘dir_error_not_found’))

Trying different addresses

Windows Address in file manager \WD-EX4100

Different error

The directory where UrBackup will save backups is inaccessible. Please fix that by modifying this folder in ‘Settings’ or by giving UrBackup rights to access this directory. (err_folder_not_found). The specified path is invalid. (code: 161)

[Ok. Stop showing this error](javascript: stopShowError(‘dir_error_not_found’))

In the server log file this is the only error coming up over and over like 1x minute

2024-07-29 09:36:20: ERROR: Sending broadcast failed! (ipv6)

I do not use ipv6 on my network and have it blocked is that an issue?

My server windows login / username and password are the same for the network file share.

Can someone help me with this issue?

Thank you

George

Hi George,

UrBackup generally needs more rights on the filesystem to function properly. It wants to create symlinks for example that can’t be done on a network share like this. You can use the NAS just fine, but mounting it differently so Urbackup has a better time using the storage might be in order.

First of all, where did you install Urbackup server itself? On Windows or Linux or somewhere else? I’d suggest mounting it in the OS and then making the mount available for Urbackup. There’s multiple ways to go about this, so we’d need to start with the basics.

I installed urbackup on a windows 11 Home edition
only account on windows machine “user” and password this is the only account on the windows 11 computer and is administrator.

On the NAS WD-EX4100 I created a share urbackup with authorized user “user” and the same password the windows 11 machine uses to log in. does this work or does the account and password need to be hard coded somehow somewhere?

The system works if I try to backup to a external m2 ssd 1TB. only when formatted with NTFS it did not work initially with it being formatted as exFAT.

I’m trying to make my network share take the backup

Works
Well I followed the error faq and hardcoded login credentials and it works. It seems that my computer login and password the same as the network share did not work. Had to hard code the login and passwrod as described in the faq.
