HYPERV clients issues and questions

Yo

Installed Hyper-v client from here on fresh winserv2019 datacenter.

Setup 2 VMs : debian10 / win10

Trying to backup debian while running the VM but get :
Error loading ZIP file MBR (1): Creating shadow copy failed. See client log file for details.

I go to the server to check the log and get this

So i came with few question :

is it possible to backup VM while running or am I missing something ?
when I restart the winserv2019, urbackup service start automatically but NOT the tray application. If I ask for incremental backup from my urbackup server, nothing happend
I avoided the problem by adding “C:\Program Files\UrBackup\UrBackupClient.exe” to the shell:startup but why ?

Could you have a look at the client log file for the error message "C:\Program Files\UrBackup\debug.log"?

The tray icon is kind of unnecessary with the hyper-v client… but I’ll have a look anyway.

My guess is you didn’t install the hyperv-daemons package into your Debian VM, so Hyper-V cannot create production checkpoints.

I’ll wait for your reply but i think this was due to the fact that I didnt install the hyperv-daemon…

I’m facing another issue right now : i deployed my hyperv client without right restore permission. Now i want to restore my previously backuped debian but tells me “no right” on hyperv powershell restore script. How to get back the right ? thx

Hmm, what exacly are you running… did you specify a -username admin parameter?

some other questions :

If i lose the entire hyperv server, how to get things back ? my guess is to setup another hyperv server with same name as the previous one, re-download the client and use the powershell script to get my vhdx back. Correct ?
in my win10 VM, is there “hyperv-daemon” or equivalent that i must install ?
about the licencing of UrBackup Client for Microsoft Hyper-V 2.x - 2.x : is there a VM / CPU Core / other limit per server ?

Correct, you can of course also just name the client the same… I’ve had requests that the client be allowed to download images of another server (by specifying the server name), so that might change in the future.

In Windows the VSS service does what hyperv-daemons does on Linux and that runs per default since Windows XP.

tried that but the client that I download is not “hyperv client” so no ps script onboard

I manualy download hyperv client, try to reconnect it to my server using the same computer name / pw than my original hyper v host but it doesn’t restore :

The client doesn’t seem to be connected… Wait a bit for the server to discover it, or configure the client settings to connect? Look at the server status page why the client isn’t online etc.?
