Huge BackupSize

Hi Guys,

i am running Urbackup now since V 1.x or last Juli- everything runs fine- But now i am facing the problem that one of my backed up hosts creates huge Backups.

Furthermore it backs up some configs like windows_components and windows_components_config

In Detail: Former Daily Backups were around 100-200 MB, now they seem to be full backups of around 30GB - ok that are small pieces, but you can imagine that 40 times 150MB is another category than 40 times 30GB :slight_smile:

Backed Up Host is a SBS2011, virtual Host on Hyper-V
Target is a QNAP NAS

I looked through the configuration but didn’t find any point which could lead to this. May you have an idea?

Symlinks acting up again? Search through the forum, there were quite a few topics about this “issue” :smiley:

i searched through the issues but they face it different? Is there any solution as it seems that symlinks are running fine (as ls -la told me)

OK, i found it - components Backup introduced with v? is saving the whole Exchange Database with about 30GB. Testing the backup lead to about 1.48MB Backupsize.

OK, but now i am asking myself how this could be configured to back up incremental?

I’m still new to UrBackup so I don’t have much to offer you there but feel free to let me know when you migrate that SBS server. I’ve done so many of those migrations I don’t even look at my notes anymore.

This is also offtopic. But since you’ve been running this on exchange for so long have you ever tested the restore before?

didn’t want to replace this SBS at the moment - maybe at the End of the year or in 2018. At the moment everything is running fine.

I did a restore but just on file level. Even as i didn’t recognize this feature yet. But seems interesting. Let’s try…

On the other hand, could it be done that Exchange backup doesn’t blow up the backup size so much?

Does the QNAP have dedup on it?

I had a similar problem when I had windows compenents enabled and it was because I had a few clients with very large SQL express databases that don’t seem to play nice with the urbackup client. I ended up disabling windows component backups

Did it the same way now. But i will try to fix this issue when there is spare time.
