Hi, i need to restore about 1Tb of data files, way too large for the web gui as that ZIPs them, is there a way of connecting via SMB or other file browser type client (maybe FTP) to drag and drop the files in an easier way?
The PC used no longer works so we dont have a client thats connect to the server for that backup store.
See section 9 and 10 in the manual
Have you tried just browsing the backup folders?
The data you are recovering, how often does it change? When was your last full backup and how many changes since then? File or Image backup?
At a simplistic level, you can see how the file backups work by looking on the server. Folders per machine, and inside there dated folders for each backup that has run.
A dumb basic option is copy that last full backup to your target. Then copy each folder of backups since, in order, on top. You’d manually recreate a restore.
No doubt there is a tool to do this. Reading that manual I think the tool for file restore is
On Linux (and the other operating systems) you can also restore via command line from the client using urbackupclientctl browse and urbackupclientctl restore-start.
I had to do similar with an Image backup the other month. I manually copied the last full, and then the incrementals to a scratch space on the new machine. “uncompress_image.bat“ was the magic I needed to put it all back together. Following 10.4 - 10.7 in that manual
I am no expert - but hope the above pointers will get you somewhere…
It all depends on what kind of data you are trying to recover and from what kind of backups
In the actual data set, there is a folder named the PC name, inside there is one called “current”, so:
“name\current”
We have been able to connect to that with SMB (File Browser), that PC backup store has no client and is not being backed up (as the drive failed, unable to restore it due to a bug in the server thats been fixed in the latest version (2.5.34, change log says “Fix volume too large error during restore with volumes greater than 2 TiB”
However we want to pull the data out this backup before upgrading, its likely around 3Tb in size.
What type of backups? File backups or Image backups?
Are you trying to recover a whole drive? Or just a few folders of data?
In this case files, we found the main data store in the backup folders under a folder called current
