How to exclude ~$*.* files from file backup?

~$*.* are MS Office temp files. I tried to exclude them with ~$*.* and with ~$* but to no avail. What am I doing wrong?

Have you tried *\~$*.docx ?

Yes, *\~$*.* works, but excludes like *.bak work without *\
This is confusing behavior imho.
