FreeBSD install stuck on ustar tar archive

I’m having trouble updating my install from 2.0.38 to 2.1.18. I’m following the guide found here.

When I perform ./configure, it gets stuck on checking how to create a ustar tar archive...

I did do one additional thing in step 3, performing pkg upgrade after pkg update

Can anyone help me fix this so I can install the update?

I’m on FreeBSD 10.3-STABLE (FreeNAS.amd64) #0 r295946+1805185(9.10.2-STABLE), really a jail in FreeNAS 9.10.

I figured out my issue. Something caused my system to semi-hang. I could SSH in anymore or access the GUI. I ended up rebooted which fixed the problem.
