Features request for restoration

Hello,

First thanks for this really good software!

I have some suggestions for the restauration part :

  1. For the boot cd we can only search for the backup server in auto mode, but i use vlans and the server is not detected. I can bypass by changing temporarly the vlan on the port of the server but it would be good to have the option of simply enter the server IP address.

  2. On the web interface we can browse and download the files, it would be a great feature to have the possibility to download folders too. If the problem would be the size of the file to download it can be acceptable with an option for the admin for a max size to download and a message of confirmation before the download to view the amount of data to transfert?

May I suggest the user of AjaxPlorer ( http://ajaxplorer.info/ ) as an independient tool?

For me is working great, giving the users access to their files and folders in read only with a full funcionality.

Just a suggestion!

That’s kind of difficult, because the server searches for the clients and not the other way around. But I have an idea about how to solve this. I’ll probably add it the next time I update the restore cd, which will probably be soon.

As lmmunoz already said, wouldn’t another separate piece of software, that does that thing really well, be better? If the backup server is in the local network I would even recommend sharing the backups via Windows shares/Samba. Are your users accessing it over the internet?

Hi guys
i think is also a great feature a restore software from the Windows Client side because is much more simple for a user to restore some data/directory for specify time frame like other classic backup software.
In this mode also the user from an internet connection is able to restore data.
Uroni what do you think about it?

UPDATE: I now move my FreeNAS with Urbackup to my office and i test some backup everything is working but when i try to restore a big file 80GB from the WebGUI the urbackup process die, what do you think about?

The suggestion to use AjaxExplorer is a great idea, thank.

The file is currently loaded completely to memory, if you use the build in HTTP server. I’ll fix that, but for now you could use a proper HTTP server like described here: http://www.urbackup.org/Administration_Manual.php#x1-80003.2

I think it would be usefull, and I will think about adding it. It would be better than a more advanced web interface, though, because permissions etc. can be restored. (they are not saved yet, but could be in the future). It should be disabled per default though, because it is a way to read all the files on one PC, even though they are from another user.
