Feature Request: nicer backup file explorer

In looking around for various backup systems before I settled on UrBackup, I found this page showing a nice web front end to browsing a backup tree. It would be nice to use code like this for the Backup tab in the web interface. Basically I was thinking that the file browser shown here is easier to understand than the current one. Not sure how much work it would be to incorporate something like this…

Thoughts?

I too would like to see a nicer restore interface, and wish i could be more helpful in regard to helping develop such a thing maybe it is time for me to learn. However i am coming from BackupPC and it has a very nice interface allowing for zip, tar, and direct restore to same or different client which are very nice features?

Perhaps this is more of a two stage enhancement:

  1. improve the user interface of the file browser when looking through the current backup
  2. add additional options for restoring files or groups of files

I honestly only care about 1), I use the command line to restore files the few rare times I need to.

Yes, in the past I’ve said that there is nothing stopping you from installing something like Pydio. If you want to restore from command line you can use scp etc. But of course it would be more comfortable to have a really good integrated backup file explorer and file restore options.

So 1). That’s something where I would really appreciate help. I’ve done a quick google search and came up with e.g. http://www.abeautifulsite.net/blog/2008/03/jquery-file-tree/ http://sfbrowser.sjeiti.com/# and http://elfinder.org/ which we could integrate. I’d write the connector.

  1. I’ve already planned to look into adding a zip file download.
