Many PCs backed up need to move 0.5-2Tb of data, this can take weeks or months for the first backup to complete, also an issue if an import of data happens to the PC or server…. i have seen other cloud / LAN backup have a VERy good method to fix this:
- First backup is pushed to a local connected removable hard drive (most times making that drive not usable for anything else),
- Pauses the backup system
- Take the drive and connect to the server, when then “imprts” this backed up data in to the server as a backed and integrates it to the backup structure
- When complete then sends an “resume / un-pause” to the client to then continue.
The above would allow that first huge backup to happen, walk to the server, plug in and import, then the cleint continues from that point not having to push all the first seen data.
