Failing to backup linux machines using CIFS mount on NAS

Hello all,

I have UrBackup server installed on a linux machine and it is mounted to a Buffalo TerraStation using CIFS. When trying to backup other linux computers, I get errorcode 95 because it cannot create symbolic links. Backups for our Windows laptops work perfectly however. I have read elsewhere on this forum that mounting using NFS will resolve the issue of failing to get symbolic links. The reason why I chose to mount with CIFS instead of NFS is that it would keep getting hung on the NFS mount command. NFS was enabled on the NAS and everything, but it still continued to hang. After exhausting all options for mounting with NFS, I then tried CIFS and it resulted in this problem.

I know I can copy files from my linux server to the NAS because I was able to use the cp command to copy a file over. When I used cp to copy a symlink, I got the message “cp: omitting directory ‘/path/’”

What can I do? Any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you.
