Failed: error - Async indexing process not found

Hello,

A Server was backing up fine, but now i am getting the following when trying to backup

failed: error - Async indexing process not found

Any ideas on this - i have tried to reinstall UrBackup but the same happens.

I am using Windows Server 2016 and Version 2.1.16 of UrBackup

I have this in the logs

@uroni

I am having the exact same issue with several Win7 clients. Image backups work fine, but File backups all fail, with the urbackup service crashing. This was not a problem about a week ago, and started suddenly with multiple machines.

Clients are running version 2.1.6
Server is running version 2.1.19

Client OS: Windows 7 Home Premium x32
Server OS: Debian 9.1 x64

I have tried uninstalling client 2.1.6, rebooting, and installing the beta 2.2.2 client, (from this post: Async indexing process not found). Same issue - the service crashes every time when it runs file indexing. I have removed the beta 2.2.2 client, and went back to the 2.1.6 client and I can reproduce the issue by running File Backup.

I will try to send the crashdumps and the debug log file to bugreports@urbackup.org, but I worry about their size not going through email - crashdumps are 85MB. Please let me know an alternate method to upload the crashdump. I’m happy to upload them to Dropbox and share the link.

I would really like to help get this issue fixed. I’m a CrashPlan refuge, so I plan on replacing about 20 CrashPlan instances with UrBackup. So I have plenty of machines to test any fixes, and provide any logs or dumps needed, or test beta versions.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the log+crash dump. It’s the " in the exclude pattern that causes this.

That was it! A single double-quote character was causing all the file backup errors and service crashes. I hope this helps someone - review your exclusions carefully.

Any way that some kind of check can be done on the text field to check for “illegal” characters?

It’s a bug. I’ll fix that it crashes with a single " :wink:

Flatlinebb,
where do you insert (and remove) that single double-quote character?
Thanks
Stefano

@stefano,

It was in the Settings > File Backups > Excluded Files (With Wildcards)

@Flatlinebb
Thank You
