Export/import settings

When managing multiple Infscape machines, realistically, the only way to apply identical configurations is to manually copy all settings under ‘Settings’.

With UrBackup, it’s technically possible to copy config files. But with Infscape, SSH access is not even enabled by default.

A good solution would be the ability to export settings from one Infscape machine (e.g. in XML or JSON), then import it into another. This is obviously not real configuration management, but at least it’s an easy way to bootstrap a new Infscape machine.

Other forum topics I found about this have gone unanswered (Exporting the configuration of an UrBackup Server + Export/import settings from UrBackup server)

It’s feasible. Could you perhaps elaborate a bit what you’d consider a better solution that importing/exporting as a file (am not doing configuration management myself, except perhaps for the UrBackup clients via the settings on the server…)?

A ‘management server’ from which one can manage and deploy configurations for/to multiple Infscape servers. But that’s a whole project in itself. Simple configuration import/export would do for most cases, I believe.
