Clients won't bind to existing server

I had a crash of two of my clients running debian 9 and had to re-install urbackup on them. Unfortunately now they won’t bind to the server anymore. The clients do start without any errors but the Server says Server Rejected. I uninstalled the clients several times with pauses and the suggested settings on the site. Removing the server_idents.txt is also not working. Anyone any idea how to bind them back to te server so i can continue the backups.

Any help is appreciated.

Some specs.
Server is running 2.1.20.
Client version is 2.2.6.0
Client and server are both headless and are running debian

this is the log of the client:

Both clients status is OK and online with Server Rejected.

Also, what I can’t figure out is how to stop and restart the client on debian. There is no /etc/init.d or service urbackup … if anyone knows this it would be nice, but is not important. It would be nice to have the clients in the backup again.

thanx for any help.

Chris

Hi

If they a are set as internet client, maybe you need to set the internet password as well.
Doing the install from the client you download from the server should set that automatically

Also when you delete server_idents.txt, does a new one appear?
If that’s the case , you may have multiple servers and the client may be binding to the wrong one.
In that case you can copy it from a client that bind to the good server, or merge them if you want the client to bind to the two servers.

Hi Orogor,

I have only one server and I tried installing the client, downloaded from de server. No success. When I delete the server_idents.txt. no new one is appearing.

I’m not sure what the problem is. I checked everything already but stil no luck. I do not have any firewalling on the local net so that isn’t a problem either. Any idea why the server_idents.txt won’t appear if it is deleted?

Cheers,

Chris

Hi

Because it can’t contact the server.
Can you also post server logs in debug mode, so wee see the lines around where it reject the client ?

Hi Orogor,

thanx for taking the time to look into this. I’m not sure how to set debug mode. What I now have is the following:

Is this something you can work with?

Chris

Ok, have spend hours and day’s finding the problem, rights, dns, settings, firewall rules, iptabels…nothing. Formated the server and added all clients again. It’s now working again. This isn’t the first time that I have this issue with clients. Urbackup should really do something about this. The documentation isn’t complete as there are not all commands listed. Also the most important settings of server and clients (file content) isn’t documented. This could help find possible errors much easier. For example I stil don’t know how to stop the client on a headless debian 9 server. init.d or service isn’t working there. How can I start a server in debug mode? Etc. It would be nice if there would come some more support.

Anyways, thanks for your help and Urbackup is a very nice product.
