Clients cannot find the server, but server indent is the same, firewall is off

I have a setup with the server and four clients on windows machines. After a server reboot the clients no longer find the server (their tray icon is red).

  • I’ve compared the server ident (web API → add client) with the one on the clients (server_idents.txt) and they are the same.
  • I’ve disabled the firewall on the server and client (the clients can reach the server’s web API).
  • I’ve check that both on the client and the server the associated service is running.

What can I do to figure out what is going wrong?

Removing the profile from the server and reinstalling one client adds it back into the active backups. So the setup is correct and the server is reachable. Another client did not lose connection to the server after all, so not all clients are affected.

I would like to understand what is wrong with the ones that do not find the server, instead of reinstalling.

Are they trying to use IPv6? I’ve had trouble with a Windows server/client setup where that was the case, I ended up outright disabling IPv6 on the server, though there are registry settings I’d need to google to find again to tell Windows to prefer IPv4 addressing, probably best applied at both ends.

Thanks for the suggestion. Disabled IPv6 on the server and client (I indeed do not need IPv6 on my LAN), restarted the UrBackup service on both, but that does not help.

I’ve enabled debug on the client. Since my system is not reachable through the internet I can post it as-is. I’m missing the PONG the working client gets.

It was the firewall on the client. I’ve disabled it again and now it connects, maybe in conjunction with the IPv6. I suspect some windows update messed with it. The UrBackupClient was still in the exceptions list, but I maybe the port is not. Reinstalling UrBackup client apparently fixes what is wrong. Further investigation needed…
