Client without tray icon - NAS and more

Hi Uroni,
I have some questions for you.

  1. I downloaded the client without tray icon, but I did not understand how to use it; can you explain me?
  2. I would like to install the server version to a NAS (more precisely Qnap TS-419P II), I googled for a while, but I have not found anything about; is that possible?
  3. The “bandwidth saving file transfer mode” work only via internet or via VPN too?

Have you in plan to permit to download entire folder instead single files?

  1. Just like the client with the tray icon, except that you setup everything with the server web-interface

  2. Should be possible because it is a linux box, right? UrBackup is confirmed to be compilable on ARM systems.

  3. Currently only via Internet. Nothing stops you from using the Internet mode over VPN though. I’m working on adding a configuration option to be able to configure it to use the block-transfer mode on local networks as well.

  4. Currently not. Other users installed other file browers like AJAXBrowser. Personally I prefer to be able to access the files as Windows share.

  1. It work only with LAN clients? Because I don’t know where to enter the parameters like Internet server name, Internet server password, etc.

  2. In march I will buy a Qnap NAS and I will try, if all goes OK I will publish here a mini-howto

  1. True. Either you push the settings to the clients over LAN, or you build a customized installer (basically configure one client and copy the backup_client.db with the correct settings in it).
