Changes for Server 0.25+ Client 0.39

I’ll list changes/features for the next version in this thread. You can also tell me which changes you would like here and discuss the changes. Preferably you can also post that into the bugtracker.

*Change the english dates in the server interface to ISO dates (YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM)
*Do not do any backups if the max number of backups setting is zero

Something with e-mail ?
The possibility to send an e-mail every time after a backup with the log file included ?

The possibility to remove all the backups from a client without removing the client from UR backup. Just a button to clear all the backups ?

The possibility to add the data drives (D: and others) also in the full image backup ?

The possibility to restore an image to other hardware ? (no idea how it is done but some commercial products have it).

The possibilty to stop a backup in the “activities” window when there is a backup in progress ?
A “stop” button near the files in queue ?

OK, I’ve only dabbled with Urbackup for a few weeks now, but I have some suggestions.

Server
[:15tjm3x2]Conform to the FHS on GNU/Linux systems, i. e. install the package to /opt. (I can help you there, if you like).[/:m:15tjm3x2]
[:15tjm3x2]Add a unique ID to the server. Currently Urbackup cannot easily be deployed to laptops because they could log into another network and would happily backup their data to any Urbackup server running there. This is a show-stopper! Of course this can be countered by adapting the MS Windows firewall but this is neither fool-proof, nor hassle-free.[/:m:15tjm3x2][/list:u:15tjm3x2]

Client
[:15tjm3x2]One word: simplify! Users don’t need to see logs, settings, paths or four options how and when to backup.[/:m:15tjm3x2]
[:15tjm3x2]Disable the tray icon! Seriously, enterprise users are quickly confused anyway, and this is nothing they need to worry about. [/:m:15tjm3x2]
[:15tjm3x2]At most leave an option to “backup now” and let the server (or hidden logic) figure out, if an image or backup is most appropriate.[/:m:15tjm3x2]
[:15tjm3x2]Move the settings, logs and path options to the web interface only.[/:m:15tjm3x2][/list:u:15tjm3x2]

I just discovered that the server already sports an unique ID and that apparently clients attach to this ID. Very nice!

That’s the reason I closed your bug report about that ;). The Client attaches to the first server it sees and doesn’t let any other server do backups etc.

Btw. mail reporting and disabling client features are already in. I’ll add the volume thing in the next version too :)

the possibility to add a description/notes to the computers in the status window ?
Now I have computers with a code and it would be easy if I could some extra info to it.
thanks.
