After adding paths in the client, full file and incremental backups are automatic, correct? How long after the paths are added does the full file backup start?
As long as you have those backup types enabled for the client, it is automatic. You can manually start the backup through the server or client interface if you want the backup to occur right now.
@john3354, if I’m starting new, and have file backups and incremental backups enabled, does one take precedence over the other? for example, does the full file backup run before the incremental? does the incremental do another full file backup the first time it’s ran or does it work off of the full file backup?
I assume the full file backup will only backup stuff from within the paths that were added to the client, correct?
thanks!
For the most part, enabling full file backups seem pretty unnecessary. But, starting from fresh, it will always run one full file backup first and then your next file backup will be an incremental.
Think of them as very much the same thing, there is no real precedence. It will run full file when they are due according to the schedule, and a full file can take the place of an incremental. You can run an infinite number of incremental though. The only full file that is necessary is the first one.
In fact, if you trigger an incremental for your first file backup, it will do a full file instead, even if you have full file backups disabled.
And yes, it only backs up what is held inside the paths that have been configured on the client.
@john3354 that’s what I thought with full file backups. I turned them off on the server side before I set up the paths on my computer to back up.
thanks for the reply!
No worries, I help out where I can.
