2.4.x server compatible with 1.4 clients?

I apologize, I couldn’t find an answer to this when searching through the forums (only 1.4 compatibility with 2.0.x server) but I have a few clients still running XP or Server 2003 (dont ask) and they need to stay with the 1.4 client. I’d like to upgrade from 2.0.36 to the latest release but not sure how this will effect these older clients. Please advise.
