UrBackup Server - Synology x86 NAS?

I was just wondering if there was a possibility of releasing an .ipk that could be installed on x86 (Intel Atom) Synology NAS units via ipkg. Or better yet a package that could be added via a custom repo from within DSM (DiskStation Manager). For example, as someone has done for CrashPlan, see here. This could be incredibly useful for home users who don’t have full-blown Linux or windows servers running in their closets but do have ample storage space and a capable NAS. Any thoughts?

I don’t own such a NAS, so it would be difficult to do.
I read a little bit and it seems to be a not so user friendly process: http://forum.synology.com/wiki/index.php/Overview_on_modifying_the_Synology_Server,_bootstrap,_ipkg_etc to create and then install one.

I saw that someone else create a UrBackup plugin for Thecus NAS devices: http://forum.thecus.com/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=4338

Hmm, ok sorry to hear that. Thank you for at least looking into it. I would have thought it would be simpler since the Synology NAS already runs linux. Well, maybe “someday” !

I have created a native Synology package.
