Super Slow File Backup

Hello!

I am backing up a server to a UrBackup server.

They both have gigabit links and very fast disks.

However, the files are transferring at 10Mbit/Sec.
Sometimes even 5 Mbit/Sec.
CPU on both ends is at 1%.
They are many small files ~100KB each.

Is there any way I can speed this up?

(Image transfers are fine at 100Mbit/sec)

Is this a Windows Server?

The client is windows server 2008 r2. The server is a windows 7 machine.

Thanks.

Ideas:

  • Disable “Run backups with background priority on the clients” in the advanced tab (for the client)
  • If you have an on-access virus scanner active, disable it temporarily to see what performance impact is has
  • Small files are always problematic, especially if you have a spinning disk and the files are scattered over the disk

Tried Idea 1: Did not help.
Tried Idea 2: Did not help either, but we are using ESET, if that helps in troubleshooting/

We do have very fast disks. I can read those files upwards of 100MB/sec but it is transferring at 5Mbit/sec.

Is there any way I can transfer these small files over SMB or CIFS?
