Error Saving Metedata. Common metadata size could not be read

Server 2.2.8, win 7.
Client 2.2.5. WHS2011.

I cannot successfully complete a Full or Incremental file backup for the client due to this error.

Does anyone know how to eliminate this error?

Thank You

Hello All,

I have further info.

This screenshot shows the start of the log.
There is one “Error saving metadata” record and all following records site some file in Windows\SoftwareDistribution as CANNOT_OPEN_FILE (3).

Win 7 x64
I erased the SoftwareDistribution\Download folder.
I did “View Installed Updates” to restore the list of installed updates.
I did “Check for Updates” to receive “No new updates”.
I did Full File backup of Barn to receive the same set of errors.

None of the files listed in the error list (215 in all) exist.
Remember, "I erased the SoftwareDistribution\Download folder on this client.
None of the files that are being complained about exist anymore.

I hope someone has seen this before.
Please Help
Thank You

Hello All,

I rebooted both client and server.
Now all of the CANNOT_OPEN_FILE(3) errors are gone.

All that remains is the one original “Error Saving Metedata. Common metadata size could not be read.” error.

Now I will have to turn on debug logging on the server to see what files directly precede the Common Metedata Size error.

More to come.

If you switch it to info it may say something like Copied metadata to [file] for error analysis. You might upload/send that. Plus maybe there is more error info in the client log file.

Sorry for the delay in my reply.
I had a week’s vacation creep up on me and on my return from vacation I caught the flu.
Feeling much better today.
So let’s go.

Attached is a zip file containing the client and server logs around the time of the error.
There is a large gap in the log data at the error point.
Also here is the metadata referred to in the server log.

Thanks! I think I found the issue. Client update with fix will follow.
