I am thinking to use urBackup on a DL-360 G7 with 192 GB RAM and a RAID10 2TB volume and freeBSD for OS. We just have this thing sitting around. I thought I might add SSDs to it somehow if there is a need for them, and physical room in the box. I was wondering, though, what the best way is to connect the server to our CIFS share? I have not tried anything yet, and have never used urBackup. Should I try to put the server AND client on the urBackup server, or is there a way to connect to a CIFS share directly without using the client? I read some other posts and it seems there are hints of this possibility…? Or should I be thinking about this in a completely different way?
My goal is offsite storage with individual file restore ability, and incremental, with some file version history.
